Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, the identical twin brothers behind the multiplatinum group NELSON, carry forward one of America’s most iconic show business legacies as seventh-generation entertainers. Grandsons of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and sons of Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Ricky Nelson, they continue a 120-year family tradition of excellence and authenticity. Their self-penned debut album After the Rain introduced their harmony-driven rock sound, earning a string of hits including the chart-topping (Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection. That success secured their place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family in history with a number 1 record across three successive generations. Since then, Matthew and Gunnar have written and performed one number 1 and five top 10 singles, achieved four number 1 MTV videos, sold over five million albums, and performed for millions worldwide.

Step back in time, where history, mystery and the paranormal will intertwine in a rare and unique interactive Victorian style experience. Spiritualism, which began in the 1850’s, made communicating with the dead a popular and often respectable pursuit. Seances became common gatherings in homes of both middle and upper-class, where people tried to contact loved ones using tables, rapping noises, or spirit boards. “The past never sleeps… it only waits to be heard.”
Join us for a live evening of spiritual inquiry. Bear witness to an immersive encounter of the unknown, as history stirs, and the unseen may make itself known. Participants are encouraged to have open minds and open hearts, and be prepared to attempt contact with the historical past.
Disclosure: Spirit communication tools will be present in the Dodge House, including but not limited to Spirit Boards and Spirit Bells.
Please note, this presentation will be in the 3rd Floor Ballroom of the Historic General Dodge House.

Haunted Bluffs: Session 4 -The Bregant House (HAUNT-01)
October 19th 7PM-9PM
Built in 1912 and custom designed for its owners Jean and Inez Bregant, who stood 45 and 42 inches tall the Bregant House at 517 South Fourth Street is unlike any other historic property in Council Bluffs. Every feature was scaled to their stature: the fireplace mantle, doorknobs, light switches, windows, and bathtub were all built smaller than standard. Locals called it "the doll house." Inez lived alone in the home for 25 years after Jean's death in 1944, until her own passing in 1969. Tonight's investigation is the first formal paranormal investigation ever conducted at the Bregant House. Your findings here become part of the historical record.

The land itself is in transformational mode. Autumn has reached and passed its peak. The last of the nut harvests are happening and the Autumn Olives, rotten invasives that they are, are ready to be eaten and enjoyed. The birds who are leaving are in full migration mode, while those who are staying are preparing and caching for the coming winter. The deer have begun their rutt, cold weather is the norm, and most of the leaves have fallen from the trees.
This time of year we humans are especially receptive to hearing about the connections between the natural world and how our ancestors have conceptualized natural forces through myth and ritual. Join us for a physical and spiritual adventure!
This program takes place almost entirely outside and involves walking on uneven, hilly dirt trails.

Get into the spirit of Halloween by joining Pottawattamie Conservation for a dark and mysterious guided night hike on the hilly trails at Hitchcock Nature Center. This hike will begin under the glow of the setting sun, but quickly turn into an exceptionally dark adventure through the late-October forest and prairie. With no moonlight in sight due to this month's late-rising waning gibbous moon, explore the park after dark along 1.25 miles of moderately challenging terrain.
Oh deer! The only spooks and scares you'll experience on this hike are those provided courtesy of Mother Nature. Perhaps a pack of coyotes howling in the night, if we're lucky!
This program will take place entirely outside and involves walking on hilly, uneven terrain in low light.
For ages 10+ due to hike length. $5 per person.
The 1885 Squirrel Cage Jail looks unsettling enough in the daylight. After dark, it’s even creepier. Join us as we explore the darker side of the jail’s history—the grim characters who once called it home, including axe murderer Jake Bird; the prisoners whose lives came to an untimely end within its walls; and the places where this supposedly “escape-proof” jail proved to be anything but. If you like your history with a little chill, join us Friday and Saturday nights throughout October for a special after-hours tour of the Squirrel Cage Jail. Admission is $15 and can be paid at the door.
