Exciting community events, summer traditions, and seasonal celebrations are returning to Council Bluffs in 2026!
The City of Council Bluffs has announced its annual Special Event Series, bringing residents and visitors together in parks and public spaces across the city. From summer festivals and family activities to holiday celebrations, the lineup offers free and affordable fun for all ages throughout the year.
These events are designed to create opportunities for the community to connect while enjoying some of Council Bluffs’ favorite outdoor spaces.
2026 Event Lineup
Summerfest at River’s Edge (June 5)
One of the City’s signature summer events returns to Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park with live entertainment, activities, food vendors, and family-friendly fun. Summerfest is free thanks to partnerships with Iowa West Foundation, Back to the River, Council Bluffs Public Library, PACE, Kiewit Luminarium, The 712 Initiative, and the YMCA.
Hydrant Parties (Beginning June 9)
A favorite summer tradition returns as the Council Bluffs Fire Department hosts hydrant parties throughout the city on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer. These free neighborhood events help families cool off and connect with the community.
Library Programming in the Parks (Beginning June 1)
The Council Bluffs Public Library will once again bring activities and programming outdoors throughout the summer in Bayliss Park and Cochran Park, offering fun for kids and families in some of the city’s most popular green spaces.
Katelman Water Park 50th Birthday Pool Party (July 17)
Celebrate 50 years of Katelman Water Park with a themed evening pool party featuring special pricing and summer fun for the community.
National Night Out at River’s Edge (August 4)
This annual community-building event brings together local law enforcement agencies, first responders, and residents for an evening focused on neighborhood connections, safety, and family-friendly activities.
Youth Fishing Derby at Big Lake Park (August 8)
Young anglers are invited to cast a line at the fourth annual Youth Fishing Derby at Big Lake Park. Registration is required and spots fill quickly each year.
Comedy Night at River’s Edge (September 18)
Adults 18 and older can enjoy a free evening of stand-up comedy at River’s Edge Pavilion during this popular annual event.
Costume Night at Cochran Park (October 9)
Cochran Park transforms into a festive fall celebration filled with costumes, themed activities, and family fun.
Winterfest at Bayliss Park (November 20)
The season wraps up with Winterfest, one of Council Bluffs’ favorite holiday traditions. The evening includes the Bayliss Park lighting ceremony, festive activities, and holiday entertainment in the heart of downtown.
The City encourages residents and visitors to take advantage of these opportunities to enjoy Council Bluffs’ parks, trails, and public spaces throughout the year.
