The summer weather has arrived, and it’s time for some fun in the sun! Council Bluffs has two fantastic family-friendly water parks and several splash pads for the kiddos to enjoy. - Katelman Water Park – 1230 16th Avenue
- Pirate Cove Water Park – 915 N 21st Street
Opening for the season on Tuesday, May 28th, both water parks offer swimming lessons, zero-depth areas, play features, sand areas, water slides, shaded seating, concessions, and more! Find more information on the City of Council Bluffs Parks & Rec website.

Places to Splash!

Kids of all ages love water play! Cool off at one of the Council Bluffs splash pads. Remember your beach towels and sunscreen.
- Fairmount Park – East Graham Ave and Park Entrance
Fairmount Park has an extensive interactive water playground with multiple elements that are fun for children of all ages. While visiting the park, you’ll also find a scenic overlook, a playground, hiking trails, a fire pit, picnic shelters, and ample parking,
- Bayliss Park – 100 Pearl Street
Bayliss Park features a small splash area on the north side of the fountain. This quaint splash pad is perfect for young children. While at Bayliss, you’ll also find historical monuments, picnic spaces, and the sights and sounds of our iconic fountain.
- Belles Play Garden - 4200 Avenue B
Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park features a water play area that’s now open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This interactive feature is a favorite summer spot for families looking to cool off while enjoying the scenic views along the riverfront. While you're there, explore the walking trails, green spaces, and striking views of the skyline.
Hydrant Parties
Hydrant Parties are a beloved Council Bluffs tradition that bring summertime fun straight to neighborhood streets. Hosted by the Council Bluffs Fire Department, these free events pop up every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. throughout the summer. Kids can splash through the spray, enjoy frozen treats, and make lasting memories with neighbors! Visit the full schedule of hydrant parties here.
