There is a story to be told for every buried treasure, even if it's just a piece of broken China or a copper wire. How did it get there? Why is it there? Who put it there? What did the servants do with a broken piece of China that they didn't want anyone to know about? How did a fine piece of jewelry end up buried for over 150 years? Let's dig deeper, all the way back to the 1800s, and bring the stories of the past into the present. It's our privilege to have metal detectorist Diane Horne for our 2024 Fall Tea to present some "top pocket" finds from the Dodge House grounds and other dig sites in Council Bluffs. Diane will delight and enlighten you with her stories of how and where "garbage" was disposed of before the days of garbage pickup. $25.00 per ticket. All sales are final, no refunds.

The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.
Note: The Taco Ride is a weekly event. It runs every Thursday evening during most of the year, weather permitting. Visit the Taco Ride website, linked below, for event news. For more information about the ride, visit our blog.

Exile formed in 1963, looking to play small clubs in Richmond, Kentucky, but managed to top both the pop and country charts with eighteen hits collectively, including eleven number ones during their 60-year-long career. Their iconic smash hit, “Kiss You All Over,” spent four weeks at the top of Billboard’s pop chart in 1978. In the early 1980s, Exile started to focus on country music. During their run on the country charts, Exile had ten No. 1 singles, including “Woke Up In Love” and "Give Me One More Chance." The hit song "Kiss You All Over" was used in the 1996 Adam Sandler movie Happy Gilmore and the 2006 film Employee of the Month, among others. They have written hit songs for other major label artists, including Alabama, Diamond Rio, and Restless Heart. The five original Exile members re-formed in 2008 and continue to tour today. Current band members include J.P. Pennington, Les Taylor, Sonny LeMaire, Marlon Hargis, and Steve Goetzman.
